This is the 4th post in a series called 30 Second Tips. My goal is to show you how to do some neat stuff in 30 seconds or less!
Today, I am going to show you one of my favorite features of the Mac. It's called Spotlight and it is incredibly useful when you need to find something quickly.
To access Spotlight click on the little magnifying glass in the upper right corner or use the keyboard shortcut Command-Space Bar.
Once you have clicked on Spotlight you can use it to search for documents, emails, contacts, events, and much more.
To demonstrate I am going to search for the application TextEdit.
As soon as you start typing Spotlight gets to work. Before you even finish typing the word Text it bring TextEdit to the top of the list and highlights it for you. All you have to do is click on it and it will open.
If you are using Leopard, Snow Leopard, or Lion you can also use Spotlight as a calculator. Click on Spotlight and start typing in your math problem.
In future 30 Second Tips I will show you other cool things you can do with Spotlight.
