Home Screens - Jordan Collins

This is the 5th post in a series called Home Screens. David Sparks over at MacSparky has been doing this for a long time and I thought it would be interesting to ask my friends, family, and former co-workers what is on their Home Screens!

Born to an oncologist mother and a sales VIP father, Jordan Collins has felt torn between two vocations. Growing up he always was encouraged to acquire a certain type of drive to meet his parent's standards. Now, only being an 18 year old, Jordan has already achieved an educational minor in mathematics from the University of Minnesota and continues to pursue a pre-med major as a neuroscientist. In his short life, Jordan has had the opportunity to travel the world, exploring more than 25 countries. It is certain, he says, that you would never see him anywhere without his MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad present (truly an Apple buff at heart). Jordan surely recognizes his complete dependence on his Apple products ability to organize his fast moving life.

What are your most interesting home screen apps?

I am one to maintain a clean, practical workspace - also being one who with ample distractions falls into temptation and loses himself in time - and this being true I only allow a few distractions. Whether it be the TinyTowers game, HeyTell, or a Spanish to English dictionary, I try to balance leisure and play. My StumbleUpon App by far exceeds the rest in the degree of interesting.

What is your favorite apps?

My absolute favorite application is Spotify. With a humble monthly fee, I enjoy the complete world of music at my fingertips. The time spent as Spotify plays my life's background is innumerable. I sit writing now as Spotify combats the silence of the room.

Which app is your guilty pleasure?

I have been playing Tiny Tower. I currently own a rather large but surely digital, all-in-one-type tower that compensates for 68 "Bitizens" and has 34 floors, and as impressive it may be, it is my secret. It is not my profile to be feeding virtual humans and building them frozen yogurt shops. But just about 2 times a day I check on my creation and expand.

What is the app you are still missing?

Man, if I here one more buddy tell me to hop on the Instagram train I will cry. I just don't have time. A truly ingenious social networking application such as Instagram deserves all praise, but I have set my personal limit to Facebook, Twitter and WordsWithFriends.

How many times a day do you use your iPhone?

Ah! Haha, convicting! It has got to be, like, 40. Dang'it!

What is your favorite feature on the iPhone?

I am really lovin' the Reminders feature Apple has just added through the new iOS 5 software. It has surely decreased my stress and added to productivity. During a causal talk with Siri (also an INCREDIBLE feature... now I am wondering why I am expounding on Reminders) I ask her to remind me in to bring in the laundry in the back seat when I arrive home, and she... reminds me. Cheers Apple!

If you were in charge at Apple, what would you add or change?

Update after update I have been pretty dang satisfied. But as the next comes out, I wonder how I could have lived without the newest features. I think this exemplifies my not knowing what is best for me. I am, fully and completely, content. And grateful!
