30 Second Tips - Quick Definitions

This is the 7th post in a series called 30 Second Tips. My goal is to show you how to do some neat stuff in 30 seconds or less!

Sometimes as you are reading your email or browsing the web on your Mac you will come across a word that you need defined.

For this example I am going to pretend I don't know what the word proximity means.


Apple has made this extremely easy in Lion1. All you have to do is tap three fingers at the same time on your trackpad and it will bring up a definition.

  1. If you are using Tiger, Leopard, or Snow Leopard you can bring up a dictionary definition by holding down the Command-Control-D keys at the same time as your cursor hovers over the word.
