This is the 9th post in a series called 30 Second Tips. My goal is to show you how to do some neat stuff in 30 seconds or less!
Apple added a really great feature in the fall of 2011 in iOS 5 but didn't do a very good job of letting people know that it existed.
This feature is text expansion. If you type certain phrases over and over on your iPhone or iPad this tip is for you!
To get started tap on the Settings app on your home screen.
Tap on General
Tap on Keyboard
Tap on Add New Shortcut...
On the top type in the Phrase and on the bottom type in the Shortcut that you want to use that will automatically expand into the word or phrase as you type. For this example I am going to use the shortcut omw to expand to the phrase On my way!
When you want to use your shortcut to expand text just start typing the shortcut in any app followed by tapping the spacebar and your shortcut will expand.
