30 Second Tips - Limit Ad Tracking (iOS)

This is the 43rd post in a series called 30 Second Tips. My goal is to show you how to do some neat stuff in 30 seconds or less!

Are advertisers tracking you to serve up targeted ads on your iPhone or iPad?
Are advertisers tracking you to serve up targeted ads on your iPhone or iPad?

Did you know that Apple allows advertisers to track your activity to serve up targeted ads to you. This tracking does not give potential advertisers any personal information so they can't identify who you are, but it does allow them to serve up an ad for car insurance if you have been looking at a bunch of car sites lately.

Here is what Apple has to say about Ad Tracking:

iOS 6 introduces the Advertising Identifier, a non-permanent, non-personal, device identifier, that apps will use to give you more control over advertisers’ ability to use tracking methods. If you choose to limit ad tracking, apps are not permitted to use the Advertising Identifier to serve you targeted ads. In the future all apps will be required to use the Advertising Identifier. However, until then you may still receive targeted ads.

You can easily limit ad tracking by following the steps below. This will not stop you from seeing ads on the iPad. It will simply stop targeted ads from being displayed.

Tap on Settings

Tap on General

Tap on About

Tap on Advertising

To Limit Ad Tracking you need to make sure that the toggle is in the ON position like it is in the image below.
