This is the 3rd post in a series called Ask The Nice Guy. In this series I will attempt to provide answers to the various questions I get asked throughout the week.
What’s inside? Here are the questions answered in this blog post, boiled down to five word (or less) summaries.
- Flash on iPad
- Translate emails
- Sync music from iTunes
Question 1: How do I get Flash on my iPad?
Steve Jobs wrote a letter titled "Thoughts on Flash where he shared his and Apple's view on Flash. He explained many reasons why Apple chose not to allow Flash on the iPad. To this day Apple still does not support Flash on any of its iOS devices.
Over the past few years we have seen most websites that were using Flash switch over to a more iPad friendly format by offering H.264 video (NYTimes.com) or by offering an app (ABC, CBS, NBC, Netflix).
There are still some websites that display content via Flash. To access this content I would recommend downloading Puffin Web Browser Free. Puffin Browser runs Flash based content on their servers and then sends its to your iPad. I tried it out on a few websites that require Flash and it worked like a charm.
The free app gives you a 14 trial so you can test it out for yourself. If you would like to use Flash on an ongoing basis you can spend $2.99 and download Puffin Web Browser.
Question 2: Translate Swedish to English?
Note: At the time I wrote this blog post, Google Translate could handle translation between 64 different langauages.
Once the app is downloaded simply copy the text that you want to translate and paste it into the white box at the top of the screen that says Type or paste text here to translate.
If you are translating from Swedish to English make sure to choose Swedish in the left box at the top and English in the right box at the top.
Question 3: Sync Music From iTunes
You can sync music from iTunes to your iPad mini, iPad, iPhone, and iPod.
- Make sure to download and install iTunes if you don't have it already.
- Plug your iPad into your Mac or PC with the USB cable that you use to charge the iPad.
The video below will run through the process to sync music from a computer.
