This is the 44th post in a series called 30 Second Tips. My goal is to show you how to do some neat stuff in 30 seconds or less!
Google is by far the most popular search engine in the United States with a marketshare of 66.7%. Since so many people use Google to find stuff on the internet I thought I would share ten different ways to search for stuff on Google.
Part One focused on tips that allow you to get the info you need without ever leaving the Google search page.
Part Two will focus on tips that allow you to narrow down your search so you get higher quality results.
Search Within A Specific Site
If you want to see results from a specific site you can type in your search term followed by site:nameofwebsite.com
Example: mac tips site:niceguytechnology.com
Note: There must be no space between site: and the name of the website.
You will then receive results from just that particular site.
Exclude Specific Terms
If you don't want to see a specific term in your search results you can type a minus sign in front of ther term you want to exclude.
Example: tips -facebook -iPad -iPhone -iOS site:niceguytechnology.com
Note: You can combine different search techniques to narrow your search even further.
The above search will find tips on the website niceguytechnology.com while excluding the terms: facebook, iPad, iPhone, and iOS.
Restrict Results By Date
You may want to restrict results by a date. You can do this by clicking on the Search Tools button below the Google search box.
You then click on Any Time and choose your time frame.
In the above example I wanted to see all the webpages that were added to niceguytechnology.com in the past month.
